The history of Norens dates back to the Jomon Era (approx. 12,000 ~ 300 BC). They were originally used to protect homes from the elements of the outside world. Norens were later adopted by shop owners to indicate that the shop was open, and soon began serving as advertisements, proudly bearing the name of the owner’s business. Today, Norens are displayed in homes as well as shops for decoration and displaying a sense of grace and beauty.

Noren curtains are now widely used in contemporary home and business decor, enhancing any room. They make wonderful doorways, wall hangings, or window dressings. Noren curtains are slit up the center, creating the ability for easy movement in and out of spaces.

Sacred Bali Designs has taken the traditional Japanese Noren curtain and expanded the concept into wonderful new dimensions.

We have added a third top piece (both sides) (the valance) in order to enrich the tradition design. All our Norens are hand painted (batik) on 100% Rayon fabric and are imported directly from Bali. Each Noren is custom designed for Sacred Bali Designs exclusively. We draw upon a wide variety of sacred images from around the world and mix the sublime with elements of nature.

All of our Doorways are hand made and as such can very slightly from piece to piece.

We have extended our product line to include special 3-Panel Noren curtain solutions for patio sliding glass doorways. Many Western style homes have sliding glass doors. As world importers, Sacred Bali Designs will be expanding our Noren curtains to include motifs from many different countries. We are developing Doorways made from other textiles including Cotton, Hemp, and Linen.

Tankhas traditionally come from Tibet. They are painted on parchment with paint made from pure gold and pure silver as well as other colors. They are then framed with beautiful quilted fabrics. Usually they depict sacred deities.

Bali Sacred Designs has taken the Tibetan Tankha tradition and merged the images and designs with a Balinese interpretation. Instead of painting on parchment, our Tankhas are batik on pure Silk. The deities are traditional Balinese motifs of Hindu deities. All silk batiks are framed in beautiful Indian Saris quilted fabrics to add thickness and texture to the framing. The silk batiks are very refined and detailed. This fusion of Tibet and Bali arts creates a truly unique heirloom quality masterpiece. These finely crafted Tankhas are imported directly from Bali with each design exclusively created for Sacred Bali Designs.

The standard yoga mat is made of rubber (the sticky mat). For many poses this is essential. Sacred Bali Designs yoga mats are designed for a more relaxed yoga. They are quilted to give more padding and comfort. The batik designs are inspirational and work subtly on your energy body. They can also be used as a throw blanket, wall hanging, and work fantastically as a cover for massage tables. Each yoga mat is hand batik painted and is a work of art. Just like a magic carpet ride our yoga mats will transport your yoga session to the divine.

Our Baby Blanket covers are made of 100% Cotton fabric. They have Polyester (quilt) filling. Each quilted baby blanket is an individually hand painted (batik) and will very slightly from piece to piece. They have loops sowed on the back and can double as wall hangings. The inspirational designs will bring continual joy to every nursery.
